Really pisses me off when people do this. In good conditions that turn to bad, then fair enough. But it was already bad conditions with more on the way, so what do they do, go walking, dheads deserve to perish.

The emergency services already have enough to do, selfish muppets.

I don't understand what problem you have. They went walking. They took longer to return than someone anticipated (possibly wrongly, you don't know). They were OK.

To spend a night on the hills in these conditions meant that they knew what they were doing and had the correct kit to survive. Given the opportunity I would have joined them.

As it is I'm heading off mountain biking this afternoon. To people who love outdoor pursuits this weathers great, its the only time during the winter you can go out without getting covered in mud.

I'm assuming the OP is annoyed that these people caused a Mountain Rescue, Police and RAF search by heading out into bad weather. Report doesn't say how experienced they were, what equipment they were carrying or what procedures they had followed though.

Edited because I missed the op wishing death on them - lets what and see what happened ok. Good, well prepared people get into difficulties to you know

Sounds like 2 well-prepared walkers spent an unexpected night in the hills - possibly the only extra action they should have taken was to contact friends to say "we're ok, will sit the night out here, don't send out the rescuers" but maybe they had no mobile signal.

Irresponsible would have been to go out WITHOUT the correct gear.

I suspect the OP was one of those getting all worked up about the washed-out OMM this summer too... rolleyes I don't recall any of those participants (that included mountain rescue team members) worrying about the bad conditions, only those not taking part.

The MR team probably enjoyed it anyway. A ride in a Helo and a play in the snow.

My point is. Hardly the most sensible area to go walking in when there is already heavy snow warnings is it with more forcast at this point in time when the emergency services are already over loaded.
They obviously were not prepared or they wouldnt have needed assistance.
It does not say if they were well prepared or not I admit. But as usual the PH massive jumps down anyone's throat who view differs from their own.

So people who like winter mountaineering shouldn't do it? Be careful advocating restrictions on freedom to do an activity because YOU don't like it or wouldn't do it. At some point it might be something you do like doing...

The article says they were found safe and well - suggests to me they had the right kit with them and didn't need any help. It also says they were reported missing - not that they called out the MR teams so the walkers didn't ask for help, but friends or family did (understandably).

Why wasn't it sensible? Apparently the weather gets quite bad in Antarctica; maybe you ought to wish death on the people who go there.

How do you know they needed assistance? Emergency services are often tasked to people who don't need assistance.

I think if you wish death upon people based on massive assumptions about what they are doing, you ought to expect that people will be critical.

If it was that cold (i.e. snow) and yet they survived outside overnight, then I'd say they were well equipped for the conditions.

As someone has said above, be wary of banning those things which you don't like, that's not the sort of precedent I think is valid.

No, it seems that someone has posted something with very little detail and made a judgement. Although I agree with the use of the word 'usual'. Plus, you're the one that offered the view in the first place, what did you expect?

Do you know that they wouldn't have been OK without assistance? If they did need assistance, do you know why?

And at what point is that unreasonable? There are hundreds of thousands of walks taking place on the fells every year, and only a tiny fraction of those ever require the help of the mountain rescue.

In case you hadn't noticed, the mountain rescue are there to rescue people on mountains and, in my experience of friends who are members of teams, they absolutely love going on shouts.

readit "They were reported missing", NOT "they called the emergency services".

MR teams are charity funded.

Au contraire. The fact they survived suggests they were prepared. And where does the article say they needed help?

How should people prepare for expeditions to the higher ranges and arctic if not to go out and push their limits when it's relatively safe?
