Hartside Summit

Does anyone know if the road across Hartside is passable at the moment? We are planning on driving from Durham to Keswick tomorrow and the most direct route(and favoured driving road) is through Alston and over Hartside summit, but I know that it has been closed at times this week. does anyone know the current situation?

With this weeks weather and knowing that route I would be taking the A66 to be sure of getting there.

Thanks, but the A686 isn't on their list of roads - typical!

It should be open at the moment. We haven't had any serious snow in the past couple of days.

The only problem on Monday was clearing the abondoned vehicles, according to the local authorities.

Cheers. The OH will be driving so it will be up to him. Perhaps we may go the A66 for a change, but we just love the Hartside road! Unfortunately the weather means we will have to take my Civic with winter tyres instead of his MX-5 to be on the safe side!!
