Help needed from German or Aussie Ultima owners

Bernard and I have finally finished our GTR a couple of months back and we are now trying to get it certified for road use in Singapore. There is only a small catch ... ... Nobody down here has ever put together their own car for street use. So the local authorities don't have their own testing facilities and also no process in place to certify cars other than those of high volume producers like Toyota for which they do type approval and simply accept the certification of the prevailing country (e.g. Japan, Germany, Australia, ...).

We have been pleading with the Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) that there are quite a handful of GTRs on the road around the world but we have to deliver proof. So here is our request:
Are there any Ultima owners on this forum that had their cars certified/inspected/approved by the German TUV or the the corresponding Aussie authorities? The Singagapore LTA would accept supporting docs from those two countries. Some scanned PDF would be great.
Also, are there any "inspection/testing manuals" for these two countries? Something similar to the SVA manual?
And, finally do you happen to know any contacts at either TUV or the Aussie side we could talk to?

I know it's a lot to ask for. But unfortunately before we get to enjoy the GTR we have to go through this paperwork nightmare.

Look at this from 2 front, safety and emissions.

Safety:

Before you do anything, ask if they would accept your car if you could show that similar cars can be registered in OZ, NZ, UK, USA, Germany etc. If so, you might try to ask some owners here for photos of the cars + registration docs. You can show them the DOT glass, and that it has the right coloured indicator lights, and you can measure the height etc....

Find the local regs and offer to have an engineer write a compliance report.

If they dont like that, and want the car tested in some way, what about proposing SVA from the UK? Whilst this is a stringent test, there's a defined set of paramaters that we know Ultima will pass.

In Oz you need an engineer to certify the build along the way, I dont think you can do it retrospectively.

So... I would suggest proposing SVA, then fly out an SVA tester from the UK to do the test and issue a report.


Emissions
Be careful on the TUV and OZ regs as they may have references to evaporative emissions.I have some docs on emissions testing (I'm in SG today - give me a buzz)

You need to offer to do the exhaust emissions only. In this respect, find out how second hand cars are registered in Singapore when imported.

We also have the department of planning and infrastructure. The problem with using their info is that each state has a different department and a different set of rules and laws when it comes to cars...some states are stricter than others so you would want to be using info from a slack state?!

To be honest I can think of easier countries to be using as an example. The system is not that well set up and some people have a devil of a job getting a basic seven on the road let alone something more exotic.

Deviant, it’s not quite like that in this case.

Some years back a company with a registered trading name “Ultima cars Australia” or something like that actually sold ultimas as a turnkey proposition they are listed in REVS. As such there is a low volume compliance import route that can be taken if you can find this company. The Department of Transport and Regional Services (DOTRS) actually have a listing for low volume compliance up on the web site. You should be able to get the file from them, and I would think it would detail everything that had to be done to the cars in order to achieve the low volume compliance. I spoke to the original owner of the Yellow Spyder (http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/spyder/features5.html) that is in the history files of the Ultima Sports company web site a while back and he said that he had a copy of it...

I haven’t seen it, just know it is supposed to exist. Probably should put a call into the DOTRS. Ill let you know.

number 130-00, close to the bottom is the one for ultima, cant imagine it ending up on the list unless some one had complied it before.

The Ultima you speak of would be THIS car?

As I always understood that list of cars on the DOTARS website...They are just models that are eligiable for import but have not actually been complied yet. If you want to import a car in to Aus you need to find the model you want on that list and THEN find someone with the correct license to do the compliance work.

Thanks for the link to that, didn’t know it was for sale – even if the circumstances behind it may be a little unfortunate.
That is the car I was referring to. Same rego plate anyway
The previous owner that i talked to was an Andy.

There used to be an importer and compliance holder/certifier listed on the DOTRS site for Ultima cars, just checked before and I now can’t see them.

Did a quick search for the Australian business that is listed on the ultima website, and it came back with

Willy, i put a call in to try and get some info on the 130:00 file, will let you know if i find anything. it may help me in the future as well.
i have already had one call back, and am waiting on a call from another department.
