I've always liked his work but never bought any of his stuff.Yet everytime i look at him play a Les Paul, and i'll probably get flamed for this, rarely have i seen anyone grab a Les paul by the scuff of the neck and take full command over it like he does!Am i wrong?,is there someone else who is so good with a Paul?Obviously you can't ignore Jimmy Page and the likes but i still don't think they can play this particular guitar so well!

I really rate him too and that particular example shows why!

Also like the way Johnny Winter plays it.

That clip i posted.I think the best way to describe it,and this is coming from someone who is not particularly into blues,is that i can look at that clip a good few times over and it excites me from a guitar players point of view.Yet i couldn't watch Slash playing Sweet child of mine or whatever over and over, yet i can't rate people like Slash etc highly enough? There's just something about the way he plays.smile

My favourite Les Paul players are Billy Gibbons, Jimmy Page, Joe Perry, Gary Moore, Paul Kossoff, Slash and Joe Bonamassa. I think if you're going to play a Les Paul you need to wring its neck. smile

Funny, I actually don't enjoy watching him play, though he is one of my all time favourites to listen to. I think he finds great tone and find his playing very emotionally rich. He just suffers severe guitar face.

Ozzy Osbourne once stated that GM had a "face like a welders bench."

Similar choice to mine. Nobody does finger vibrato like Koss. I'm looking forward to the new Joe Bonnamassa album in a couple of weeks, they're starting to play it on Planet Rock, sounds pretty good to me.

Re Joe Walsh, although I like some of his stuff, I think he's vastly over-rated. I've seen him on two "Guitar Specials", Seville and one on the telly the other night; and he was totally outshone by all the other guitarists, to the stage of me thinking "when is he going to leave so somebody else can play?".

Paul Kossoff at his best. A fave of mine. Bass and guitar are tremendous.

I would class Billy Gibbons and Kossoff the same,as in they don't do too much, but what they do they do well!Never heard of Bonamassa, just watched a few clips of him on Youtube, that clip of him at 12 years old is mental,he just seem to hold himself and play like he's in his forties or something.

Oh Yes. Molten Gold on "Koss" is brilliant too. As has been said, with Koss, it's as much about what he doesn't play, as what he does.

Malmsteen take note, please.

Joe Bonnamassa has a set on Planet Rock on Wednesday nights IIRC. Track down "Live from nowhere in particular" and give it a listen.

I listen to PR quite a lot, and it never ceases to amaze me how many people email in after his music has been on saying "who was that guy playing on the track before so and so the other night". 98 times out of 100 it's Joe.

The last time a guitarist came on the scene that caused the "who is that guy" like this was Jeff Healey.

Tuesday nights at 7pm for an hour. There is a listen again feature on their website though if you miss it, and I they repeat it on Sunday nights too (assuming the schedule hasn't changed recently).

I do really like Gary Moore, but I always felt Robbo was the best Lizzy partner for Scott Gorham.

Although I have many fond memories of GM with Phil Lynott, the one memory that irks me the most is at Donnington in '84 I think. I was having a good kip (after Accept), and he woke me up with that note in Parisienne Walkways that he holds for 10 minutes.

Natually, I cursed him and went back to sleep hehe

But that all said - 'Out in the fields' is one of best ever pieces of work .... ironically with Philo.

Well worthy of a listen cloud9

My favourite zakk wylde moment has to have been the first album he did with ozzy. They did a song about an american tv evangelist who got caught with his pants down. Zakk's work on that song alone made me a fan of his work, especially pride and glory's first album!!
