.....but Oz & James don't, so what else should I try that's similar but better? Available from Waitrose too ideally, unless it's really worth tracking it down at somewhere more obscure, I could go to Tesco or even ASDA at a push as long as my jabs are up to date first....

Just get a load of ales of a similar colour and have fun tasting them, not hard.

Yup, it's a good experience, and an enjoyable learning curve, but I now get DRAFT magazine delivered to me, here in the US, and its a great read, except it gives me too many ideas, and a suitably hefty bill at my local booze outlet.

Have tried many other alternative and the only one I prefer is Sam Smith's Nut Brown Ale. NB is 2nd best IMO. I do keep trying the odd alternative but kep coming back to these two as firm favourites yum

Get your hands on a copy of the late Michael Jackson's "Great Beer Guide" and start working your way though it. It's pretty much a book of the best 500 beers in the world and the recommendations are very reliable. I've only done about 170 of the beers listed in there, so I have a long way to go yet...

If Tesco and Asda are 'obscure' in your World I'd just stick with Duchy Originals.

Yes there are some three-eyed monsters in ASDA but more fool the Waitrose lot for being taken in by similar products at twice the price.

And yes I do realise Waitrose offer some outstanding produce.

The comment was made with tongue firmly in cheek, although the location of my local Tesco and ASDA do mean they have more than their fair share or mutants, Tesco in particular, being located in the grottiest and most unpleasant area in the whole of Oxfordshire!
