Outside of term time you can stay in the halls of residence of the university (can't remember the name) - cheap (or used to be, anyway) and very central, in nice grounds

Looking for cheap, there is a hostel on Dame street near Christchurch Cathedral and handy to Burdock's. Only €20 a night and decent. Includes a breakfast of sorts.

Short walk to Temple Bar.

Do not go if there is any possibility whatsoever of snow. I landed here this morning from Gatwick, couple of snowflakes and a meeting later, airport closed and all flights home cancelled. Managed to find (after 40+ minutes on the phone) a hotel, hours later booked a flight to hopefully get me home tomorrow.

Saying that, Dublin itself is great, everyone is extremely friendly from taxi drivers to random people in bars. The prices for food and drink are expensive if you stick to normal (eg. Temple Bar) areas but I guess good deals can be had elsewhere. I love the place, just wish I was at home rather than on PH in a cold hotel room frown
