That belt only drives the air con. To remove it you will need to remove the main aux drive belt. Or put a knife through the air con belt!

As I am tight as a ducks arse, as Sarah will confirm (and no doubt Bonnie will mention my stealing 10p hehe ) I hardly ever run the a/c other than to keep the gasses ticking over. To me its an unwanted weight that I don't need. What would it take to remove the A/C system? Is there a lot to it? If possible would it then be possible to reconnect (easily) in the future should I wish to put it back on for sale?

Fairly easy. Remove pump, remove pipes (all in one piece), remove condensor and then plug the connections to the evaporator inside the dash. You really dont want to take that out, trust me on that!!

I have that manual and can recomend it. I found it useful when I did my gearbox swap even though my car is the year later.
