as post states, flash not working good....

Have had the camera for about 8 months and the flash is not working... it pops up but never flashes. I am not sure when it stopped working as i don't use it all the time. Is there a place i can get it fixed ? Or is it just a case that the bulb may have gone and needs replacing ?

Any info appreciated - thanks

Is it turned on in the menu? Might be on manual -- by accident?

Ah, fair enough. In which case you can send off to Nikon (or one of their repair centres) and they'll do an estimate for you. From experience with my D80 the whole process took around 3 weeks from sending off to receiving fixed.

You might be better off treating yourself to an SB400 or 600 if you've got the cash and dont want to part with the camera

If the camera's only 8 months old, then the first port of call should be the shop you bought it from. It's their responsibility to replace/fix it within warranty (and, sometimes, out of warranty, depending on the nature of the fault).

...just in case you've missed something, or it's in some wierd mode, I'd try a reset (usually a combination of buttons held down on power up) and set it to a full auto mode with the ISO set low in dim conditions.

assuming it was purchased with a uk warranty , it will be fixed free of charge (if it has been damaged through dropping or other accident it will cost you ) take it back to where you bought it from and they will arrange for it to go to nikon and be fixed smile

Not sure if you can do this on a D40, but on my D300 I can reset everything by pressing two buttons at the same time. Sorted out a problem I had ages ago.
