Hi All

I wonder if anyone can help me, Im trying to find a full decent quality video clip from the top gear episode where Clarkson reviewed the new v8 range Jaguar XJR, he races it against a db7, merc and a boxster and does a road test as well, the car is a metallic green xjr on the plate P767 NRW which I now own (although its now on a private plate) so Id be really interested to find the full footage.
As it was a Jaguar press car maybe (at a long shot!) someone remembers it from other press as well (apparently there was an article in October 97's top gear magazine regarding the XJR although I havent seen this yet so dont know if a different car was used for the magazine)

heres part of a clip that a guy on the jaguar forums found for me:

Hope you find it Ben....interesting, if rather poor quality video so far, and would be good to see it in full.

Hi all.

Also wonder if anyone knows what other car magazines where about that may have featured the car?
Just found a copy of "car" magazine also from October 97 that featured it.

Cheers for the link, really good site :-)

Just bought a copy of autocar from september 1997 as it seemed like it featured my car, however it turned up in the post today and the car in it is actually R767 NRW not mine which is P767 NRW, weirdly though the car in the pictures is identical in every other way, could Jaguar have had 2 press cars at the same time, identical but one on a P and one on an R or is it likely that the magazine edited the number / or Jaguar put an R plate on the car for the photos to make it look brand new (as the feature is comparing it to the brand new R reg audi s8)
Im only thinking that may have been the case as a check on DVLA website shows R767NRW belonging to a 3.2 Jag registered in May 98!

Have you tried talking to the guys at the Magazine?

I could well believe they would doctor the reg for a pre-release car to make it look current.

It's almost definitely your car in Autocar.
Magazines change registration numbers to keep their articles current. The car featured had a plate the letter after yours and the issue came out a month after the change.
Have you tried writing to the BBC?

Good plan :-)
just seems too much of a coincedence otherwise!
just put a post on the autocar forum, the guy who wrote the review still works there and is active on the forum so you never know :-)

Cheers

Hi -If I remember correctly it is a sort of "dark dusty turquoise" colour and I saw it in a number of press articles as you say. Also - it was used at the first and only "Top Gear Live" at Silverstone back in about 98/99 - where it gave passenger laps on one of the silverstone circuits. I went round in it with a very impressive driver demonstrating how effectively it could perform power oversteer drifts. (I'm sure your delighted to know that you P&J was used in such a way! sorry!)

I next saw it in the window of Guy Salmon Jaguar in Thames Ditton, Surrey. If you find out which issue of Top Gear it was in, I can at least send you a colour photocopy of the article.

Hope something in the above is of interest.

Hi thanks for the info, Ive got a few magazines here now and have scanned them in, still looking for the original top gear video though...

Im just about to write to the dvla to get the past owners details, see how long it was with Jaguar, going on the service stamps it looks like it spent most of its life after Jaguar down in the surrey area, I bought it from a place down near southend.

This car must have got through some tyres in its time by the sounds of it... amazingly its still in great condition even at 113k miles!

Cheers
