Bottom engine tray removal

car has rear clip off and is up on blocks so i can get underneath it and i would like to take off the botton alloy tray under the engine ,if i take out all the screws will it come off ok or are they bonded in places ??? Simon

Are they screws? I thought they were rivets.

use a drill driver with hammer action takes 10 to 15 mins and its off

I ended up having to dremel a big slot in the tops of a lot on mine as they just chewed up when I tried to loosen them.

I'll be tackling re-sealing the cabin floor at some point. Not looking forward to that job really.

I did this over a year ago and had no trouble. I replaced mine with good quality stainless steel items. Whilst it was off i rubbed it all down and put god knows how many layers of rust preventative paint on. Cleaned it right up and then it looked great.

Only thing is i never want to take it out in bad weather now its so clean, lol.

Mine was a bit of a pain, but probably took around 45-60 minutes.

Ah The Dremel is a must for any serious member of the Nobility they are seriously fun things for finishing new stainless floor pannels

Holy crap what a arse of a job !!!! ended up cutting 1mm slots in all the screw heads with a disc cutter !! should have seen all the crap on it !! good news is bottom of engine looks ok although all the heat wrap on the exhaust has fallen off ,and it all needs a good clean .

Wouldn't just drilling them out and replacing with a larger diameter stainless screw work?

Too bloody hard tried drilling them out but it just did not work ,cutting a slot seemed to be the only way !!!

tapped all mine m4 and put countersunk screws in.

took a while but really easy to get off now

I had to take the heads off about 4 or 5 of them - thin screwdriver and hammer did the job as drilling didn't seem to make much headway. I've got a couple of stubs now where there should be screws but it really makes no difference in terms of it being secure.
