Mercedes Based Kits
Discussion
Does anyone know of any Merc-based kits? I would like to feel my W123 can live on in spirit when the body finally rusts away. I seem to remember a Ronart something or other way back when.
Actually with all the modern Mercs that rust away in a few years leaving excellent mechanicals there could be a wider market for this......

the industry has kind of moved on from recycling old, rusty vehicles, and is now more about using select components form differnt cars/manufactures aswell as custom made parts
on the other hand, you know the (resent?) history of your car, and im presuming that its fairly reliable, so it would be a shame to dispose of it and step in to the blue as it were
theres no reason some elements of your mercedes couldn't be used in some form of 7 (locost, or kit form)
anything will fit/can be done, it just depends on how much money/time/swearing you want to throw at it

I agree with what Doug has said, and will add to it that by the time the overall cost of putting a kit car on the road has been assessed, it will be seen that there is little point in starting with a particular set of components which may be well known and free, if that is going to bring other problems such as design, manufacture and compatability with it.
Much, much better to start with a clear idea of what you want to have at the end of the project, then gather together whatever is needed to achieve that.

There it is, right there!
All depends on how determined you are.

Thanks for the replies, I think you make very fair points re. the direction the industry is going. I will keep the Merc going as long as it makes sense and then go hunting for something interesting (my wife has a very nice 32,000 mile mini sprite auto too - I might steal it for a Mini Marcos!)
