On my way home from work tonight along the A66 in Middlesbrough I was stopped at a roundabout and a nice big Omega with twinkly bits on top came up at speed from behind. As I stopped for it to pass another driver pulled out and tried to squeeze in front. Somehow the BiB managed to avoid him and set off across the roundabout only having to avoid another prat pulling out in front. Having followed the cop car for a while I was totally amazed how many people didn't see it. Although I was driving a dark coloured car and doing, erm, 1. similar sorts of speeds I didnt seem to attract the same suicidal antics.

It happens all the time. There must be a section in the highway code that i am missing in my copy that says
"When a big white car with blue flashing lights and sirens is approaching at speed, that means it's safe to pull out and into their path as they are obviously not rushing to an emergency".

Just hope my copy isn't missing anything else

Have you got the para which says "throw this away once you've passed your test and follow the sheep"?

Sorry - Cynical mode now turned off !

Having just returned from a visit Stateside, I was again impressed by American driver's actions when an emergency vehicle appears behind them. If driving, they move out of the way and stop at the roadside (I believe this is law in many if not all States). If stationary (eg. at traffic signals) they move out of the way (cross traffic obeys the first 'rule' and stops).

Trouble with the US though is that this is an example of what's happened to the 'land of the free'. One day they'll wake up and realise that the USA is one of the most regulated, law-infested countries in liberal democracy-dom. Never ceases to amaze.

Having said that, I approve of the one which says that any car with five or six other vehicles in a queue behind it must pull over and let them past.

I know ive brought this up before but I still cannot believe it...

Did anyone see that episode of the traffic police program on Bravo where they were steaming up the outside lane of the motorway, blues going siren as well to get to an RTA, car in the outside lane (middle lane at least was clear).

What did the car do when the police came up behind it? IT SLAMMED ITS BRAKES ON IN THE OUTSIDE LANE!!!!!

Its a shame the police were on the way to somthing more serious. The Bib driving was fairly amazed / pissed off!!!!

There was one on last night, must be the same one that you're talking about. The car in the outside lane was dawdling when the BiB caught up with it, the usual sirens, blues ETC. The driver of the car actually put his/her right indicator on and pulled slightly to the right and stopped. You could hear the COP shouting at him and could almost feel the steam coming from the cop's ears. Now, that was incredible, you can only hope they noted his/her number and visited him/her after they'd dealt with the more serious prblem they were attending to.
