After selling the gallardo i found myself toyless once again. I've got a deposit down for a new gt3 but the more i think about it i'm not sure i want to shell out the best part of 90k for another porker.... So i took the plunge today and done something i never thought i would. I ordered a new caterham R500 and have decided to do as many trackdays as possible this year. I'm sure i will be back in an italian exotic soon enough, Probably when scuderias drop to the 115k mark but for now i'm really looking forward to May when i pick up the new toy.

Nutter!!!!!!!!!

Love your thinking. I do things like this - wake up one morning and for some reason a certain car can just pop into my mind. It has ranged from old Mercs to brand new stuff and no matter what I try the dam car just wont leave my brain cells until I go and buy one..I reckon on your past form you will own this car for 6 days, a big fat wasper will smack you right in the eyeball and you will think 'bugger this' and hand the keys over to its new rightfull owner.

The problem with getting something like an R500 is that everything else will seem so tame and just a little dull afterwards. But congratulations on choosing a true nutter mobile biggrin

Nice choice Martin...

i did something similar last year when i bought the Atom...totally mad and impractical but i dont care!

you wont get bored of it, but you probably will get another Italian...not instead of, but as well as.
my 360 feels more like a cruiser these days though

A great choice, looks like fun sitting a few feet from the ground and isn't it the fastest track car out there?

Wouldn't say this on the Porsche forum as they'd shout troll but isn't the GT3 obsolete as a track car due to the cheaper, more powerful and faster GTR?

Have you had a Caterham before? If not, you will love it. I have the Cat SLR. A great track car.

Nope i never even thought about owning a cat before, Till i saw the stig peddle anR500 round the topgear track. Have always known they were quick as there is a chap that is always at c.combe in a csr260. From what i can see though the r500 is the daddy on circuit.

R500 will certainly be one of the quickest cars on most tracks. Cats are so good to drive sideways!

You will love it to death.

How long is the wait?

I dearly love my Seven but I envy your position to be able to get an R500.

Well done, a great decision and you really are going to love that car. It is simply awesome.

SS

Edit just to say that if you need to spend £115k and decide a Fezza will be too boring after the R500 then you could always look here

It does until you hit something solid. £ per hp they take a lot of beating, but driving a car thats chassis is made out of nothing better than tubing that you would make a chair or table from does not inspire confidence. Good luck and enjoy, but be careful out there.

That looks like it will be awesome - I'm now going to go and watch the stig peddle it around the track on top gear hehe I can remember the amount of input the stig was having to put in to make it go where he wanted it to go though and even then, i'm quite sure he was sideways for most of the lap hehe
