Sugar Powder Explodes...how?

Just read a news story on my cell phone about an explosion in a sugar factory that caused a death to one person and severe body burns to another. Supposedly powders such as sugar and other particles can ignite. How is this possible? Should we all be careful when openinga fun dip or nestles chocolate mix?

Flour mills, coal mines, anywhere that has the potential of large clouds of fine dust are at risk of explosion.
It's the cloud effect that does it, nice mix of very fine particles and oxygen.
Custard powder is the best readily available 'source'. The trick is in releasing the powder to get a good cloud and delaying the small initial charge. Apparently.......

There was a theory at one time that the real damage to the Titanic was caused by coal dust in the bunkers (on beams and ledges etc.) being dislodged by the collision and forming a dusty atmosphere which then exploded.
