Sleeving Cans - Quick question

Hey guys

Managed to get 1 can off today (without freezing to death) which end to I start knocking the pipe into, the end that goes over the exhaust pipe or the back of the silencer? Going to have to wait for the other one as the bolt on the exhaust clamp has been warn down so will need cutting off and I havn't got a spare

I used a big rubber mallet and knocked the sleeve in from the clamp end, I also used an off-cut of pipe to knock it in far enough to cover all the baffles.

Fantastic thanks. I should have around 200mm pipe left over so that will come in handy

Grr nothing is ever easy is it.

Right hand can no problems at all.

Tried the Left hand one with it still on the car as the bolt is compleatly rounded. Now have 200mm of piping sticking out the back and it wont go forward or backwards lol. Any ideas on how to cut the exhaust clip off?

Just wait till you try and get em out if need be, right bd! made mine too loud for the neighbours but told them they were welded in. Have you used stainless or theyre never coming out! sounds mint though, brings out every pop and bang, wait till the deceleration popping when hot! tried cutting nuts off with a slitting disc on 4" grinder?

they are stainless, I fired her up to see if a little back presser would help me pull it out lol. Sounded much better then

Am I right in thinking if I cut through the bolt the clip will just pull off? Got a small drill with a saw drill bit that I was going to use

Yeah just chop the bolt, should at least free it up to get the can off then just slid it off.

Have you got cats still, would be very interested in a sound clip if you could. Im toying with doing mine but really dont want it too loud, might just use a half length sleeve and see what its like.

my cats are in at the moment, off to dulford tomorrow to get my EFI error looked at and I am tempted to get Richard to put some decat pipes in

Why dont you just have some tubes bent up to remove the back boxes rather than removing cats (expensive) for minimal gains. All ive done is sleeved cans as mentioned and removed the boxes. Tube and rolling cost me 40 quid and its fooking loud

When I sleeved mine I just followed some instructions from here somewhere and knocked them straight in without taking the boxes off. I was supposed to put some screws or tack them in but I didn't get round to it and they have never shown any sign of coming out. I also used the off cut to make sure the pipes went right the way in. I used a wooden mallet though !

I think in all, including cutting the pipe, it took me.....oooh, 10 mins ? Cheapest and easiest mod I have ever done - the pipe only cost £17 iirc.

well managed to get the can off thisevening. Got some cutting disks for my multi tool for £4 I can see why it wouldnt go in took a right beating! only managed to get it flush with the end of the can so that will have to do until the weekend. At least I can get it down to Dulfords to sort out my EFI fault. Looking forward to the pops and bangs

Well I can safly say the actual noise isnt much more than standard, I couldnt really tell the difference. However the pops have gone from a quite "puf puf" to a more rasp "bap bap"

Sadly not as Richard was snowed under today got it booked in for Wednesday. Car seems to be running fine though after sitting idle for a couple of weeks

I didn't even remove the cans when I did mine. Tapped them in gently with a soft mallet while maintaining a firm grip on the pipe/can, drilled a small hole upward once the sleeve was in and put in a small self-tapping screw to prevent it shaking loose or launching a mortar-type attack on anyone behind.

Been fine for six months or more.

Similar to others in this post I simply used a surplus bit of tube to tap the sleeves home, I also had a small bar welded inside the tube near to the end to allow easy removal with a pair of pliers
