A/C retro fit

has anyone done this before?

i no its not an easy job, just wanted to see if its been done before and if anyones got a list of parts.

are the wiring looms universal, ie do they have all the necessary wiring for air con even if they aren equipped with it?

I Had my MK1 done a few years ago, at the time the factory would not let the local dealers fit it so i lost the car for a couple of weeks.Obviously that is not the case now. The wiring is already fitted all your need are the parts. I would speak to a breakers yard or RG it used to cost £1000 Assuming you can source the parts probably a days work to fit.

Certainly second hand parts will be available..........Errr due to lets say "bent examples".

No. not an expert but not rocket science should be easy to find out. I would ask a dealer to quote then compare to S/H part plus install. Not much needed. A compressor, 2 radiators/ condensor,an air dryer and a bit of plumbing. If you go down the DIY route just ask someone to take some pics to show where stuff fits.

With it being renowned for not working too well is there not a way you could install an 'upgraded' version?

You must be able to get decent units cheap?
