After slip sliding about in the Ro I decided to buy a spacious family wagon and fancied a Series 3 Discovery. I found one I liked and called the dealer only to be told they wouldn't open because of snow and I would have to arrange an appointment for next week. Then they emailed me again and said that due to interest, the price had gone up by £1000! what a bunch of tossers.

Email them back and tell them due to increased attitude, your interest in the vehicle has gone down by 1000%.

I agree, but isn't that illegal? Don't think you can put an item up for sale then increase the price just beacuse people show interest! Isn't that a sort of 'gazumping'?

thing I'm most cross about is I really like the look of it: right price, mileage, spec etc and they won't sell it to me! I hope they go out of business.

They will do, the week of snow will just prolong the agony. Nobody wants 4x4's anymore. A friend of mine just bought an 08 range rover sport tdv8 hse with 6k on the clock for 33k.

Tell them to %$£* off. Wouldn't spend ANY money there. Oh alright, Bollocks, tell them to stuff it up their arse! Sorry if language offends anyone - not normally like me, but they deserve it.

well watch the car for the next week or so and see if it sells, if not go in and say that due to the lack of interest your offer is now 2000 less than the asking price and they can take the sale there and then or look to the dole office

Could you take it out on a test drive, and accidently crash it on their forecourt ?

Public road could get dodgy with insurance and legal issues. But as their forecourt is private property, the road traffic act shouldnt apply. So you could maybe bash into a couple of cars then say oops :P

Road traffic act still applies to private property if it can be accessed directly by the public with no restriction. for example, a supermarket car park is private property but still covered by the RTAand you can get done for speeding and donuts for example. So if at the time you can drive straight onto the forcourt without having a barrier open then you'll still within the RTA.

Increasing prices from advertised is very shaky ground - esp. for a registered car trader. If the advert is still current then I would start waving trade descriptions around.

Personally I'd just laugh at them given the current climate - a sale is a sale.

TBH, I wouldn't buy from them now on general principle & given the current climate I'm surprised by their arrogance. I have another one lined up to look at this afternoon and the bloke on the phone seems keen to do a deal. Fingers crossed

True I guess...

Although strangely the police will be happy to do people for playing in such a car park in the snow......

yet when there is a bump in the car park from dick who shouldnt have a license. "Oh, thats private property, nothing to do with us"

Just because prices go up doesnt mean a depression doesnt exist, stagflation anyone?.
Afterall the government is trying its hardest to cause inflation to get people spending now, as if that attitude didnt get us into this mess in the first place.

160% increase in the bank of englands balance sheet anyone?
Plus a 35% increase in the money supply since Q3 last year IIRC.
And near zero percent interest rates.

After all the best way the government knows of paying off debt is to use inflation to erode it to help bail out all the retarded labour voters who got 120% mortgages to buy their homes, then secured loans for home cinema systems, cars etc. Especially now they have all lost their jobs.

Not sure why anyone is surprised about any of this. What do you expect with an incompetent communist government?

You can look forward to rampant inflation shortly plus years of higher taxation. Nice.

Well, I bought the one I went to look at. It's a 2005 SE 2.7 V6 with 7 seats, full leather, Harmon Kardon, heated seats, the lot! Beautiful (and I mean perfect) nick all for £12k. It would have cost its first owner over 40 grand!

If you are looking for a family car, these a brilliant value at the moment.

Don't blame me, my wife bought it; I just took it for the test drive! It's for carting my family around and days out at the beach and I like it. Anyway, you're only jealous because it's faster and worth more than your R8
