S1 hood stowage
Discussion
Morning all,
I have another 'new owner' query I would appreciate advice with. I took off the hood yesterday and put the Elemental on (thanks Graham), and expect the car to stay that way most of the time. On the basis that the hood will spend more time off that on, and it is in very good condition, I want to make sure I am storing it properly.
First of all, are they OK folded up in the hood bag for months at a time, or are they better off hung up flat?
Then, roof bows stowage in the car. Mine is a late '98 car. Handbook says they go behind seats, but I can't see any clips or locating points, and assume Lotus don't mean leave them rattling around ? I do though have 2 velcro tabs in the boot, just below the engine lid stay, that seem to hold the bows nicely. Is that what they are for ?
Finally, soft top and side rails stowage. Book says roll up side rails in soft top, but since I have the soft top bag, I assume the rails are meant to go in the pockets on the front of the bag ?
Sorry for numpty questions, but would be a shame to spoil a nice roof due to newbie ignorance !
Thanks, and yes I know I should be out driving it !

Yes to storing the bowed roof rails using the two small velcro tabs.
Yes to storing the side rails in the sleeves in in the soft top bag.
I store my soft top rolled up neatly in the soft top bag too after it has been thoroughly dried to ensure no moisture is trapped and its has been fine when I have got it out.
Yes you should be driving it

Yeah, yours is a boot-box car by the sounds of it so your hood bows stick with the velcro in the boot. There should also be a couple of vinyl loops on the hood bag that these can slide through if you want to store them with the hood in your garage. The earlier boot-bag cars (Pre Aug '98) Stored the hood and the bows in the bag behind the cargo net.
As has been said, storing it in the bag is fine so long as it's well-dried first. There's a knack to folding/rolling it up, but it's pretty obvious once you've had a play with it.
