Stop for a Snooze

No need to sleep in the car any more

Travelodge has announced the launch of a new 'Catnap and Coffee' initiative, which will provide tired motorists with the opportunity to rent a room for half an hour - just enough time to make a strong cup of coffee and enjoy a 15 minute nap, prior to continuing on their journey.

Launching on Sunday 26th October and targeted at weary travellers who have been on the road for more than two hours; the new offer comes in response to the Department for Transport's advice that motorists should plan to stop for a 15 minute break every two hours on a long journey if you're feeling sleepy; during which time they should drink one or two cups of strong coffee and take a 15 minute nap.

In total, eight key roadside Travelodges, all of which are situated at renowned congestion  'hot spots' throughout the UK are involved in the 'Catnap and Coffee' initiative, with a view to the list of participating Travelodges being expanded in the New Year, depending on guests' response to this new offer.

Simon Gregory, sales and marketing director for Travelodge, explains the reasons: "With many of our lodges situated along the UK's busiest routes, we are all too aware of the problems of driver fatigue, particularly during the winter months. Both our 'Catnap and Coffee' initiative and half price offer will extend Travelodge's hassle-free offering beyond the traditional full nights' stay and will provide drivers with a safe, comfortable place to stop at any time ."

The Travelodges participating in the 'Catnap & Coffee' initiative are:

M6: Carlisle Southwaite, Knutsford, Hilton Park
M1:  Donington Park, Toddington, Wakefield
M4 Chippenham East / West
A1 Washington North / South

Dubious connotations aside, are they seriously going to make enough money to make it worthwhile potentially having to change & launder 100-odd sets of sheets & towels 48 times a day?

Why not sleep in your car?

Plus when the coffee wears out it will make you twice as tired.

I say a massive car park and a bottle of water.

'Weary drivers' after 2 hours??

I did St. Austell in Cornwall to Teesside on Tuesday: 426 miles with one 10 minute stop... in 7 hours. In a van.

Pussies.

Of course, I had it tough - Belfast to Oxford Via Stranraer in 7 hours, no stops and had to paddle the van across the irish sea on a pedallo wi' hole in it.

Surely you could just say the room is for you, then have your bit on the side come up 5 mins later?

Ive put to much thought into this, I hope MrsF doesnt read it!

Its hardly worth the effort.

1) Realise your tired
2) Pull off the motorway
3) Goto desk and book in
4) Walk to room
5) Lie on bed
6) Sleep
7) Make coffee
8) Lock Room
9) Back to desk
10) Checkout

vs

1) Realise your tired
2) Stop car
3) Sleep

Hmmmmmm...

Oh I'm sleepy!
Where's the nearest travel lodge?,
Miles way no doubt,
I'll pass on that one

No there's nothing wrong with a quick kip in my car, in fact It's rather comfy, it's my car, I it's available at the next layby.

I don't think they'll be making any money on that one
