Hi

One of my bits of winter fettling is getting the Vixen horn working off the wheel horn button. I have a Moto lita wheel (on which I have just replaced the disintegrated horn pencil) to which one wire is fed to the slip ring and then via the pencil to the button switch.

My question is, where / how do I earth the steering shaft to complete the circuit? Or have I got this all wrong!

Any help appreciated!
Paul.

Hi JPA, just completed this job, replacing pencil ring etc. you need to wire across lower steering shaft rubber joint, then earth from steering rack to chassis.

Thanks for that. I had noticed that the bolts on both sides of the bottom steering joint had copper wire windings that thread through an eye in the end of each bolt, but on mine there is a winding on 1 side and 1 on the other, so they obviously do not carry current over the rubber joint. I assume the idea is to create a winding over the rubber joint is it?

I had tried to cobble something over this to try it but I think everything needs cleaning up to give better connections. I just thought I might have missed some other earth connecting point that was more obvious.

Cheers!

Hi Adrian, thanks for confirmation. I have got the horn working by jumping a lead to the column but just wanted to know what the correct way was to earth it.

Will be able to get rid of my 'ergonomically' placed toggle switch once I have fettled the earth!
