Chelsea Flower Show 2009

As this is one of PH's favourite events i thought it best to start early.

I am tasked with taking wifey to this event this year. I know my life is going to be made a misery if i get it wrong. Which i will, in one way or another, i just know.

We fancy staying out of town though, and are planning to visit the show over a couple of days.

Could PH's wisest recommend a nice town with a rail station that we could commute from without too much hassle? maybe a nice chiltern or stockbroker belt town or vilage? Is it possible to catch a train which will stop near chelsea, or will we have to travel to a main station and tube it the rest of the way?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Then i can blame PH when it all goes er, pear shaped.

No seriously, i'd be grateful for any thoughts and/or info. Ta.

Nearest station is Battersea (into Victoria).

Nearest tube is Sloane Square.

Traffic = horrendous

Be prepared to walk!

ETA - tis well worth it, even if you're not into gardening

Top end of the King's Road is a bit of a public transport black hole, but there is are a couple of overground stations south of the river ... queenstown road battersea, and battersea park. Probably a 10 minute walk from those two back to the Royal hospital?

Sloane Square is the closest tube, which makes Victoria mainline station about 2 minutes away. So anywhere nice that goes into Victoria would be a goer.

I wouldn't necessarily say this is the 'best' place for you, since it's bloody miles away, but you could have a nice break in Brighton and get the train in, in less than an hour and a half? Everyone likes the seaside

As Ali Kat said,traffic is horrendous. However if you'd rather sit in traffic rather than walk, they do lay on buses from Sloane Square and also Battersea Park should you park your car in their car parks.

If you are a member of the RHS you can go earlier in the week. It depends how commited to gardening you are.

Yes, she is an RHS member, not sure right now though which days we are going.
Do i take it that Victoria is walkable to the venue? That would be good. Brighton sounds good, we had a nice stay there a few years ago.

I'd be grateful for any more info though folks, i think i'm going to need all the help i can get.

How far do you like walking?

IIRC

Victoria to Sloane Square is about 2-3 mins via tube, then you have a good 20-30 minute walk down.

Victoria to Battersea is about 5-8 minutes via train, then it is a good 20 minutes walk up the road.
