We currently own a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3, which was recommended in a variety of camera magazines a year or two ago, but we haven't been very happy with it. The pictures appear to be very grainy and the colours washed out and the whole image appears noisy and generally quite poor. We use the camera mainly for landscape pictures.

We are looking to spend about £300, but not interested in extras or ultar high resolutions, priority being crystal clear images with vibrant colours. Can anyone recommend one that would be suitable for us?

Sounds like you've come to the end of the compact road and need to get a DSLR, and all the complexities that entails. Sorry!

It might be worth looking at the Canon G10. It's about the best compact camera available within your budget (or just over perhaps) and you get full manual control, raw etc. Otherwise, as Simpo says, you'll need to look at DSLRs.

TZ5?? Mine produces superb landscapes - I'm often leaving my Nikons behind for the pure portability.

A camera all about resolution at the cost of noise?

It's ok as long as you stay in the low ISOs. It's a bit of a waste of time above ISO 200 though I'll admit.

Thanks all. The Canon G10 was one we were considering. Any more suggestions before we go and have a look this weekend?

I heard that the G9 was less noisy (due to the lower MP count) but still damn capable.

Stick with Panasonic and go for the LX3?

Got one a couple of weeks ago and I'm blown away by it. Highly recommended.
