Does Anyone Keep Koi Carp?

Hi,

My mums good friend and employer has unfortunately passed away and his wife cannot look after his fish as she is bad with cancer. They have a lot of Koi and some are very large. They would like them to go to a loving home.

I believe they should not be moved until warmer weather so I'm just putting the feelers out at the minute.

We would like to sell the fish so that his wife can make life a bit easier for herself so if anyone is interested can you drop me a PM.

Go Careful here some Koi can be worth an awful lot of money, depends on quality and colour etc.

You need to hunt around for a local club to you they will help you out and give you some pointers to some reasonable resellers

Go very careful indeed. Sadly, while some of these things cost a fortune to buy at retail - as soon as you try & sell them back to "the trade" as a private individual they seem to become virtually worthless more often than not.

Might be a good idea to see if you can figure out from credit card statements/bank records/personal records/cheque book stubs etc what was paid for some of them first as well.

She/you should also be very careful who you let know where they are as well - its not unknown for ponds to get cleaned out overnight.

any serious keeper would not want any koi ,if they didnt know its origins

one fish with khv can completely wipe out a mature ponds koi.

Yep. Be careful.

If you could manage it, keep popping over to hers until summer and keep them fed (or let her do it), then plan on getting your own pond built (if you haven't got one) and keep them all.

Selling them on, especially at this time, is probably more hassle than it's worth.
