Valentines - Decent sushi restaurants in London?
Discussion
Greetings
Am taking a lovely lady out on Valentines for dinner! We both love Sushi so I'd like recommendations for somewhere decent we can go. I'm thinking somewhere we can get a nice table, and take our time, enjoying a few drinks & the chat etc. I don't mind if it's a bit pricey, but just want somewhere that's top notch with good relaxed atmosphere.
I'm in Uxbridge, Middlesex, and it appears that there aren't really any Sushi restaurants unless we head into Central London? Nowhere more local? All the searches I do come up with Central London.......
Recommendations would be most welcome.
Thanks in advance

two things to piss on your chips:
1) Going anywhere on V-day is a pain in the tits...you will probably be lucky to get a table this late
2) most of the really nice (and decent value) sushi bars aren't really that atmospheric...lovely ones like Ten Ten Tei on Brewer St. near picadilly circus (best salmon & ikura don in town) feel a bit like eating in a cafe.
one thing that might work for you is Sushi Hiroba in Holborn. Its run by Koreans, which means a more modern/international take on sushi (using things like hot chilli, mayonnaise etc) but they even do california rolls in japan these days
plus the atmosphere is good, and so are the drinks. http://www.sushihiroba.co.uk/

Thx for the reply. We're actually going on Friday night so booking should be ok fingers crossed. Most of Saturday will be spent horizontal if things pan out.....Think I've found somewhere which looks promising. Pretty close to home too! Will check out the Holborn place when I'm up town next. Thanks again....
Makiyaki in Kingston is great for California style sushi. Good value for money too and was a favorite when i lived just down the road.
Yoshi sushi in New Maldon (KT3 4BY) is fantastic value and normally full of Japanese people. Traditional sushi and is some of the best I have ever eaten.
There is also a place near the Japanese embassy in London that I went to a couple of years ago. Pricey but very nice. Sorry I cannot remember the name of it though

Sushi Hiro in Ealing Common. Simply fantastic sushi. My mum is Japanese & lives in Ruislip, & travels here for sushi, she won't eat anywhere else!

Matsuri in St James's
It's a Japanese restaurant that does sushi & teppanyaki - a great all round experience.
Not the cheapest but not a rip off and the food is great
but do not go overboard on the Sake, you'll not remember what you ate, let alone the rest of the evening. It's a Japanese restaurant that does sushi & teppanyaki - a great all round experience.

I haven't tried many different sake's, but the stuff they do there is miles better than anything I've ever tasted before. Last time I went, I spent £25, including sake and a beer and I was so full I couldn't move - it is excellent value!
Have been trying to call this place for several days now! They were closed Monday, but each day since I've tried calling at different times with no success! It just rings and rings. Have finally given up and booked a table elsewhere now!
Shame. Might pop in one lunchtime and hopefully no booking will be required....

Final update on this thread.
We ended up going to Kiraku which is just down the road from Sushi Hiro in Ealing Common.
Was really busy, full of japanese people and the only annoyance was that we ended up waiting about 30 minutes for the Sushi to arrive, but when it did finally arrive it was well worth it. We tried various different sushi / sashimi / maki dishes and it really was rather good! Had a fair amount of house Saki which we hadn't tried before & it was unusual......served hot, smells like whisky / spirits but then no aftertaste at all! We managed to tuck away a fair amount of food, saki then beer & wine and the total bill came to just over £50. Pretty good value & we had a great evening
Thanks for all the replies & suggestions.
