Does anybody have it bought directly (ie not through an employer)?

I was thinking about looking for some for my wife and I, but the bigger providers don't seem to want to list prices on their web sites ( I guess it depends on medical history etc?).

I used to have private cover with BUPA some years ago undr a group scheme which started off pretty reasionable but being at the bottom of the corporate ladder I couldn't aford it once they realised they had signed up a load of hypochondraics at my place of work.

Ball park figure for a couple on non smokers in their 40's?

Crickey. I have just had tried for the cover work provide me at a cost of £400 - privately that would be over £1000.

Well, I think we pay about £160 a month for BUPA full cover. 30s and non-smokers. If you have pre-existing conditions it is harder to get quotes for them to be included.

I took over my company policy with Bupa personally.

This is a standard policy for me only and costs £850 a year.

I have a private policy with PPP. It's been pretty good when I've needed to use it, although I haven't used it in a few years now. I preferred them to BUPA when I took the policy out, though I might consider a switch since I don't seem to be ill at all now and BUPA is cheaper.

Ranging from about £56 a month for a basic in-patient package to £120-£140 for a decet full package.
