How cold?

How cold was it where you were last night?

It got down to -19C in Alford (Abedeenshire), according to my fairly accurate thermometer. Which means that it must have been less than -20C in some of the more remote areas locally... Car won't start this morning (it's still -15C and it's an older diesel).

It can't have been that cold, the car wasn't frozen over. But the snow is still on the ground.

How low does the temperature drop usually? For a diesel, you need a engine heater.

Well above freezing, with a LOT of rain overnight on the south coast (huge amounts of standing water everywhere!)

It gets below -10C here quite regularly over the winter. We've had about 4 or 5 such cold snaps this winter so far...
