Is the job market really that bad yet?

I'm guessing there are a few PH'ers out looking for a new job at the moment, what with the crunch and all.

So, how bad IS the job market at the moment? A mate of mine seems to have walked into another job within a couple of weeks of leaving his last one, but he's a good 'story teller' so I'm not sure I believe there a 'loads of jobs out there to be had'.

There are jobs about, but rates of pay have fallen substantially. I was earning more ten years ago than what's being advertised now.

Im a QS and finding it quite tough to be honest, there isnt much to go around in the area i work in.

company i work for has announced redundancies yet there are still 15 pages of internal jobs on our intranet. thats about half what it was, though i notice the quality of the positions on offer has improved.

Sorry, i meant that i work in retail, as opposed to geographical location.
