We have the technology to drill very deep boreholes into the Earth, the deepest being the Kola Superdeep Borehole in Russia:

Now as you get down there the temperature gets very high ( as high as 300 degrees), so once you've drilled your big hole, insert piping and feed water through it, thus turning the hole into a giant free boiler.
The steam coming from the return off the pipework could be used to drive turbines and after it has cooled the water could be re-fed back into hole.
Probably not be able to heat the water in sufficient quantities to drive many turbines but way cooler that some of the free energy ideas you see in the media.
So would it work?

I've said it before:
Drill a hole in the ice caps and suck the water from the sea and spray it up top to freeze making more ice/snow/glaciers etc.

Not endless energy supply as the holes can cool down if the heat is extracted quicker than it is replenished from deeper down, which means drilling another hole...and another...then another after that one...Its not truely renewable either is it? The heat from the mantle doesn't replenish itself, presumably in a few billion years the heat from the mantle will all be lost and the earth will solidify.
Also the sun is not a renewable source. It is using hydrogen as fuel and will run out eventually.
On the other hand, oil is a renwable source because as things die, they (slowly) replenish the oil sources on the planet...
...So what I am saying is that Oil is a much greener source of energy than solar energy. If we use up all of the oil reserves then we just have to wait a few million years for them to replenish, but if we use up all of the suns energy like these silly lentelists want us to then everything will die.
So!
Use lots of oil and preserve the sun!
I imagine it would be hugely expensive to
a) drill a hole that deep in the first place
b) run a pipeline all that way down
c) then there's the practicalities of building and maintaining a high pressure pipeline at 300c ambient temperature
d) to pump water that far, vertically, you'd need some large pumps and probably incremental pumps at various points on the way up
e) it's probably cheaper, easier and more efficient £/Kw to build some nuclear power stations
Just IMHO as a non-engineer.

It's easier than that. Burning oil is simply recyling. It recycles the trapped CO2 back into the air it came from millions of years ago. Recyling saves the planet because they keep telling us that. So go burn oil!gamefreaks said:
