My front offside caliper is stuck on. I got back from work and found the disc glowing red, so I presume this is the fault. Is it expensive to repair?

Thanks.

Not usually, no. Just take it to a specialist and get them to rebuild it.

Worst-case is a new calliper.

Don't know what car you've got, but a replacement should be £100 or less.

I would get a new caliper. there not normally that expensive and a lot less hassle.
Have you damaged the disc?

Surely you noticed the massive wobble when driving?
I did. I've had both front calipers done now and one rear.

Had the N/S one seize on my 330ci. Pattern replacement was about £70 IIRC, took about an hour to change with the use of a socket set, a brake pipe clamp and someone to pump the pedal to get the air out. Not too difficult.

Check you haven't warped your disc though - might have done if it got that hot.

Had one replaced at the end of last year, cost 172GBP to replace the caliper and the hose on that wheel including labour and VAT. Like others have said depending on the extent of the damage you may have to replace discs and pads as discs can warp with heat. If it was glowing red it must have been pretty hot!

You will have almost certainly cooked the pads on that side so new pads are a must. If it really did get that hot, you may well have boiled the fluid in that caliper so a brake fluid change would not go amiss. The disc may well have warped so a set of front discs could also be on the shopping list.

I would fit a new caliper depending on what car it is. Some new calipers are £600 and in that case I would rebuild, otherwise, renew.

Hi all,

Just to let you know I had the caliper, disc, pads and flex hose changed. Total cost was £254.50.

Thanks for all your help!
