He's now having a go at the overtaking working group (OWG).
He's been in the press so often recently that one would almost think he was starting a re-election campaign, but we know that's not true because he said that he was going to retire this year. Or have I missed something?
I get the feeling that if you stick a microphone in front of his face, at least one that doesn't look like a thermometer, he'll give an opinion on anything.
There were suggestions that the voting system was going to change, giving rights to those who pay the money to the FiA to out those presidents who underperform. What's the betting it doesn't come in?
The OWG was set up after Mosley's idea, split wings, were ridiculed by FOTA. I bet that he will find fault with OWG's solution then try an impose his.

When was that, Derek?They (he) changed the voting system after Flogsy was nearly ousted back in '01, but that change made it more difficult to get rid of a power-mad, lunatic thug president, if the FIA were ever so unfortunate as to have one.
The dissenting members, such as the US and Germany, made a lot of noise last year, after the vote. They have been conspicuously quiet ever since. My hunch is that they have not, however, lost track of the fact that the current president's term expires later this year.
One of those pushing for the change to the system was, of all groups, the Caravan Club. They are members of the FiA and came out forcibily aginst MM during his orgy time and there was mention that they and others in the same situation would be pushing for voting rights changes. It seems that some clubs, who not only are charged less but even so don't even bother to pay their fees, have voting rights but the CC, which pays up on time and in full, doesn't.
I think both the Germans & the US will quietly drop out of the FIA when Mosely is re-elected.
It's not like the US has a GP to lose & in the case of the Germans their's just loses money anyway.
As for the Caravan Club, they are in the FIA under their touring section & as only 1 association per country is allowed full voting rights it's the RAC MSA that has them, the spineless beggers.

It stops 1 nation having 27 clubs each with 3 members & full voting rights but doesn't stop 1 nation with 1 club & 3 members having full voting rights.
Clearly any club with more than "X" members should have full voting rights no matter where it is but if that happened Max'd have no control over the whole thing & we can't have that can we?

The survival of Formula One's Overtaking Working Group (OWG) depends on the results of this year's sweeping bodywork rule changes.
Headed by leading team technical boffins Paddy Lowe (McLaren), Pat Symonds (Renault) and Rory Byrne (Ferrari), the group extensively tested their ideas - whose questionable aesthetics have been slammed by many F1 fans - in two wind tunnels and were ultimately rubber-stamped by the FIA.
But FIA technical consultant Tony Purnell said recently he suspects the changes have in fact not achieved the desired downforce reduction of 50 percent.
According to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, FIA President Max Mosley now reveals that if Purnell's fears are realised, the FIA will not be amused.
"If the desired effect does not occur," the 68-year-old Briton warned, "then that will be the end of the expert group."
Er, if it works & the 50% figure has been reached why would they need to keep the OWG? In the same vein, if it's not working then the group needs to remain in place to find a way of ensuring that the 50% is retained.
Assuming that the 50% has not been obtained & that it's 'cos the OWG deliberately fudged their input = paranoia. Just another reason for Max to go IMO.

That would be, I assume, the Tony Purnell whose role is, according to Mosley/FiA:"Purnell’s main role will be to assist the FIA in developing Formula One technologies that will be road-relevant and which will help to improve the racing on the track. Working closely with FIA Technical Consultant Peter Wright and Head of the FIA Formula One Technical Department Charlie Whiting, Purnell will liaise with manufacturers, oil companies and key universities to identify the latest trends in vehicle technology developments."
His job in reducing downforce is probably a Saturday morning task.
On the subject of voting rights, I can understand, and to a great extent support, the premise of spreading the voting rights evenly between countries. It wouldn't do to allow the richest countries to bully the smaller ones and protect their own interests. However, when such voting rights are abused then the argument from those who put all the money in: no foistering on us a totally inappropriate president without representation, or words to that effect, becomes to a great extent unarguable. Why should various motoring bodies in this country pay extraordinary amounts of money to someone whom they not only do not want but who, it seems, at least according to the great man himself, cannot work within budget.
It seems to me to be a bit Zanu pFiA.
The thing is that in order to keep the fair play of spreading votes, those awarded voting rights over and above those their contributions (when they can be bothered to pay them) merit have to play fair as well. Voting for Mosley in the so-called confidence vote against the wishes of the majority of the big boys might be a risk too far.
