Lost of debate here recently (and for years) about Scotland and its role in the union. The Clarkson / Brown spat, The West Lothian Question, the BBC paying out millions to promote the Gaelic language in Scotland etc.. What should be done?

We have separate Assemlies/ Parliaments for Scotland Wales and Ireland. All of them want separate recognition. While as an Englishman I am forced to live my life by rules made by people from all of these countries sitting in a UK Parliament. Give us a separate English Parliament too.

My Vote... English Independance.

Pretty balanced I thought. As are the options. I didn't offer "re build Hardians wall and put all the whinging jocks back on the other side of it, Brown first" which would probably have won. biggrin

Either scrap the Scottish Parliament or go the whole hog and have independence.Either of these would get rid of the West Lothian question...

FWIW, with the amount of anti Scottish feeling, I'm amazed a pro split party hasn't been voted in by the English.

I'd be happy to see Scotland go it's own way. What the hell, why not.

Then England can be happy knowing that whatever their issues are, then thats fine, but it's not our fault.

Oh, and newsflash, all your Nuclear Submarines at Fas Lane and the rotting hulks at Rosyth get back to you as well.

Cheers, see ya.

Full independence. They can keep their oil, we can keep our subsidy, no more arguments. Being able to spend without the responsibility of determining income tax is just wrong. Then if they want to abolish all tolls on bridges, tuition fees and prescription charges and build fancy assembly buildings we won't care.

There's still a couple of years worth of oil to be had.

Of course for years 'we' have lived by rules made up by Englishmen (and women) primarily for English citizens (oops sorry, subjects).
Most if not all wholly English legislation is voted on by only English constituent MP's.
There should be an English Assembly too, but there does not appear to be much call for one, and no major political party has it as a policy.

Should have fought harder then.... :-P

I'm not saying what you have is wrong - just that we English should have the same. Unfortunately as you pointed out, nobody seems to be interested. Mind you, the Labour party's top man is a Scot, and Cameron is a suspiciaously Scottish sounding name...

YOU might not have decided yet, however international law has. The vast majority of it would go to an independant Scotland.

The funniest part of this thread and indeed all the other anti Scottish threads is, not many of you actually understand what powers the Scottish assembly actually has.
