Who did what, who do we blame? Financial Cluedo! I've allowed multiple answers since the options are not mutually exclusive.

Except I imagine a large dose of ignorance will see some punished more harshly than they deserve and some guilty parties let off altogether.

The agencies (Experian etc) who advised the banks that investing in the 'securities' that included sub-prime mortgages etc were safe, should at least take some portion of the blame, but ultimately the banks have to accept that that is what they invested in.
But the greed of the general public can't be overlooked either.

The tears of Chuck Norris contain enough liquidity to solve the credit crunch. Too bad he never cries.

I think it's all Putin's fault.

First they cut off the gas, then sent the freezing cold our way.

Oh wait, wrong thread.

Ah well I still blame him.

This isn't resolving anything, merely attaching blame.

Can you add in the following option.

The fostering of the *self* culture in kids from Thatchers Britain, who now expect everything handed to them on a plate, who went out and sought loans they couldn't afford to pay back, which were loaned to them by irresponsible lenders, which were run by Bankers for which the Bonus was everything, who themselves, were ill advised by the agencies, and badly regulated by the FSA. All of which is wrapped up in the policies of a current government that seems hell bent on rewarding laziness

...and breathe!

can you add in Ratings Agencies, Investors, Regulators and Al Qaeda? They're the smartest - terrorist attack -> massive interest rate cuts -> massive cheap credit fuelled asset bubble -> bust.

Isn't everyone to blame as we all form a part of the financial system?

As for these calls for 'bankers' to give back their bonuses, simple green eyed communism.

Yes, MDs who have profited from failure should be brought to account but they're an easy target, why has nobody pointed the finger at sub prime borrowers who have defaulted?
