I think it looks fantastic and if he keeps it 6 months should be able to get out of it with his shirt still on his back.

At £79,995 the car is about £20k overpriced - on another thread a similar 612 bid to £56k (approx) at auction today.

I agree with Chris Harris that they are epic cars but if he does not want to loose a bundle of cash he needs to spend a lot less.

Yes but that 612 at Manheim Auction today was not a nice example.
Very low spec and needed a lot of paint work.
It needed to be cheap!

I can completely see where 'is 'Arriship is going with this but he is spending way, way too much wonga when couped, 2+2, demi-practical, 200 mph screaming salvation is £40-45k below where he am at.

I know this and Lord R of Bristol & The West knows it.

It is a stunning ownership concept because it is a 'rarri but to borrow from the original Hammond, "there's an awful lot of badge going on, there..."

If CH is concerned about depreciation but has the V12 Ferrari bug to satisfy, I'd suggest looking at buying one of a number of decent sub £50k 575s on the market. This cunning manouvre should also allow him to keep one of the finest cars ever built on the fleet...........AKA E39 M5 mit AP stoppers.

If you're reading this Mr Harris...don't do it! Yes it is a great car and yes it can get you and three mates to timbuktoo quicker than the enterprise with a photon torpedo up its a*se (ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration biggrin) but, and there are a few of them buts! First but; you and your three mates better pack lite or only be going there and back cos the boot isn't big, in fact for a motor nearly 20ft long, it's small. There's lots of room in the car but not in the boot. Secondly, it's a big ol bus round town or anywhere remotely looking like a town so not all that easy to park, manouver (spelling?) and generally move through traffic. And lastly, I think that you will lose your shirt at that price. I bought one last year, an 05 plate with less than 18k on the clock and thought I'd got a good price cos it had taken a monster hit from new. I expected to take a hit, but not the 40k that it did in about 5 months!

Fabulous car to dream about, reality is a bit more stark....but of course, only IMHO.

The 612 is such a classy car though but agree that a 575 with HGTE would be the best choice if he can find one.

Yep grumpy , and I'm pretty laid back about losing money on cars, it is what it is, they're my pleasure in life and they all cost money and as a chap once said there is no point in being the richest bloke in the graveyard (all said in a broad Aussie accent!) and he's right but that one hurt, and by the way I'm rambling on; it still does!weeping

However, I don't feel that about the other cars because even though I've lost a small fortune on them I've loved them all...except that one, so don't do it Mr Harris, although at 75 to 80k I don't think you'll get butt *****d like I did rolleyes

Awesome car. Awesome.

Had the pleasure of driving one for 250 miles, with someone else's fuel, tyres and clutch lining.Would I buy one? Not for that price. They're pulling your pants down with their margin there..... If they knock 10k off then do it, maybe, but make sure you get a warranty.

Ask to see proof of what they paid for it........ then watch them look at their shoes and suck through their teeth about how they're having the best month ever and they can't buy them fast enough to keep up with demand....

For example, from V8's auction thread....

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

V8's auction report said:
2004 54 FERRARI 612 SCAGLIETTI F1A 5.7L COUPE. 27k. £56,000
PS good to hear you're here lurking, CH.

Yes but that was an auction price for what was by all accounts a dog of a car

I've fancied a 612 ever since I saw the moon roof smile at 80k it's a little too steep, there should be some good haggling at the moment though.. let's face it, we all know it's going to cost to run & is going to depreciate, but there's something about them (for me at least). Should my numbers come up, I'd chop the gransport for one smile

A 612 is a replacement for a 456 - not a 550/575.

I've driven some distance in one - and think it is pretty much peerless as a GT. It was also rediculously quick around Goodwood circuit - in both auto and manual modes!

This really is the uber GT - the Maserati quattroporte is great/the CL 63 is v good - and not forgetting the Conti GT Speed - but the 612 is in a class of it's own - espeacially if you have the HGTS pack on.

Go on Chris - just do it - you know you want to - and just fill the car up with 3 other (tall) mates - and go across europe in it - they wont complain in the back - it's that sorted.

Enjoy

Thats not the car in question as the car at auction was Black with Beige.
And to be fair to Dick Lovett, they would not retail a Ferrari in the condition it was in as would hope any Ferrari dealer would.

Sorry, I was referring to the one Chris Harris was after in the OP.

Sorry, makes sence.
Ref other peoples comments, if you dont need the rear seats, a 575 would be the way forward.
I dont want to knock the 612 as it is a great car to drive unlike the 456 before hand but I experienced an auto which killed the engine in my opinion.
Never driven a manual 456, but I'm sure it would be a better car.

Resurrecting this 612 thread only because I have that Ferrari V12 itch that needs scratching and an FF is sadly out of my reach in the short term. I also need to fit kids in (and possibly a drum kit smile so a 550/575 isn't an option (I do love the 456 though I feel they're a little long in the tooth as an 'everyday' car). My main question is regarding the 612's ability to survive un-garaged through the worst of what the British weather/winter will throw at it as my garage space is taken. Finally, it has cam belts, right?

I drive a Ferrari 612 almost daily, and it has been totaly reliable. No trouble whatsoever! The build quality is superb. A real modern classic. If you can find one of the MANUAL six speed cars then I feel it would also be an investment as well. No regrets!
