Does anyone actually believe in this Investors in People sh1te? I have worked for two companies with this accreditation. The first agreed to pay for me to go to college after work, I got the qualification and as a result was able to take on more responsibility - so was looking for some recognition in my pay packet. This was not forthcoming and my request was refused - so I went and found another job paying 30% more.

This company also have the accreditation but are far from Investors in People. They expect those 'lucky' enough to receive further training to take all study leave and exam time off as holiday and training is only available to a select few.

So if anyone out there is thinking of obtaining the IIP accreditation for their business I would suggest that they don't bother. We are not easily fooled. Plus if you train someone to improve their capabiliites you have to be prepared to pay them more money.

All these "Charters" and "Accreditationa" are a load of old tosh. They mainly exist for publicity purposes or for attracting government sponsored contracts.

It's a load of complete bullsh1t.

It defines an intention by the company concerned, that's all.

So it proves that it works, you get trained courtesy of your employer, which is a huge plus in my books, and i agree with you that they should pay you more, but what about the investment they've just shelled out for to get you trained ?

I'm paying for somebody to get CiPD accreditation at the moment on the proviso that she has to stay a minimum of 12 months after finishing and qualifying to assist in the cost for accreditation, if she leaves then she has to re-pay 75%of the cost of accreditation back to the company.

I want my Moneys worth before they feck off and get a higher paid job courtesy of me !!

When a previous employer went for accreditation a number of people were "Groomed" for the interviews, loads of pieces of paper for everyone to sign saying "yes I get trained to do my job" went round and all of a sudden the "Investers in People" board had a lot more cash and the employer got some loverly blue plasticky crap thing to put on the wall.

Everything else stayed the same - in my experience it was completely meaningless.

Agreed, the AXA office where I worked had one of those blue plasticky things on the wall. It meant absolutely sod all, as I saw nothing of the sort to backup such an award.

I spent a month or two helping to prepare an IiP report so that the company could try to regain its status after deciding not to worry about it too much. The things these guys look at is amazing and really detailed - I left shortly after compiling a load of info. and never did find out if they got it.

I think that if companies make an effort to carry out what is recommended, then it is worth it, if it's just as a "badge" then it seems to be a complete waste of time and money.
