Thought some of you may be interested on this zr1net post :

The National Auto Sport Association (NASA) has now posted on their website
the final results of last Saturdays Texas One Mile Shootout:

www.texasmile.com

The great news is that my LPE Twin Turbo ZR-1 took first place overall for
cars as well as first place in the Unlimited Car class. It was very close,
but we plan to do even better next year.

The Twin Turbo did 191.51 mph, and barely edged out SW's heavily modified
Viper which turned 190.91 mph. WOW, that was so close! Third place in the
Unlimited class went to what I believe is a twin turbo C5 that turned
180.62. Both Bob Hall and Paul Smith were in the 180 mph class and beat the
third place unlimited car with their LPE 385 and LPE 415 ZR-1s.

Maybe someone can calculate the actual rpm the TT was turning at 191 mph,
but I felt like it was sitting at red line for at least the last 1/8 mile in
fifth gear. I was running 3.92 rear end gears with Michelin Pilot 3.35 tires
on widened stock wheels. I ran at 38 psi both front and rear. Given that I
was on the rev limiter, we loaded it back up after just one run. Maybe I
should have tried 6th gear?

Maybe next year it needs a 3.73 or stock 3.45 gears??

The car went straight as an arrow without any real excitment at that speed.
I took it through the first four gears pretty conservativly and then in
fifth gear it just pulled like a freight train. Unbelievable! The folks that
were watching the run said there was no smoke, no noise, just a clean run.

When I got through the traps I slowly lifted and then got on the brakes
pretty hard to stop in the short shut down area. Once I got on the brakes it
moved around a little but not enough to make me change my shorts! That was
with stock brakes. Next year we'll probably put the Brembos on.

I haven't had this much fun in a long time. These one mile shootout are
great ways to show off the fabulous technology in our ZR-1's. There's
nothing better than seeing mid/late 1980's ZR-1 technology kick butt on all
the new stuff out there.

Here's a follow up :

With 3.45 gears and 315 Hoosiers, I was turning about 7300 - 7400 at a hair over 200 mph. I would think the 3.73 or if you could get your hands on a set of 3.54, either of those would probably be OK. By the way, the math does not work out on the rpm and tire size equaling the speed I was showing on the speedo on the 200 mph run. Don't know why. According to several dyno runs, the tach was pretty close to correct. Speedo is the unknown. Probably will never know what speed I was actually going. Radar caught me at 201 but that may have been and probably was after I slowed down some. I would have loved to have been there to see youall run.

PS: Congrats on 1st place. And congrats also to Bob and Paul, now official members of the 180 club. Next step is the 200 club, a little more exclusive. :-)

To do that in 1 mile is amazing. Elvington is 1.25 mile.
