Is there a way of finding out who the previous owners of a car was?

I seem to recall the DVLA would give you this a few years back for a small fee, but I dont think they do now for data protection. Perhaps give them a call?

I keep photocopies of the old V5 whenever I buy a car - so I have the last-but-one owner's details available if a buyer wants them. Be good if more people did this.
