Is it me and my imagination, am I catching the key fob getting in and out....?

The last two times I have put my XJR into the garage I have noticed that the boot open warning is displayed and the boot is actually physically ajar when I check it.

Is there some fault on these cars that I am not yet aware of ?

If anyone knows about this please enlighten me.....

I have had this happen a couple of times when driving, had to stop and close the boot.
I wondered did I unlock it accidentally when opening the car, but didn't think so. Couldn't be absolutely sure though.
Maybe it is a fault then.

If it is the same as the XKR, the boot release button is down on the right hand side of the fascia. I have certainly touched it on getting out of my XKR and can be a reason for your problem

I have only had my XJ8 3.2 for a few weeks and this has happened to me 3 times. On 2 occasions I hadn't noticed the light and only realised what had happened when the alarm went off. Thought I was going mad. I now double check the boot when I walk away.

The wiring harness where it passes over the right hand side hinge on the boot lid is prone to breaking wires. Not likley to be the cause of a random boot opening 'tho - things like the boot release button, interior illumination or number plate lights usually just stop working if there's a broken wire.

Might be worth a look though. Just pull off the grey plastic cover on the hinge arm and have a poke about.

I may be totally wrong, but I thought the boot wouldn't open whilst the car's moving, I thought it had some safety mechanism, so that even if you accidentally pressed to boot open button, it wouldn't do anything, if the car's not stationery...
