Any builder types on here ? Quick question..

We have a typical 2 car sized driveway with standard sized flags. For matters which I don’t need to go into, the driveway is currently uneven and needs relaying.

What would be the aprox. charge for lifting all of the flags, re-sanding (flattening) the base and then relaying the flags correctly ?

Can't help on cost, but if you've got a problem with level perhaps you should ask for costs RE: stoning up beneath them before putting the sand down.

I was quoted £100/person per day for a patio. (CASH), so probably £150+ with invoice.

Not that I am suggesting builders would consider avoiding VAT.

I can't give you a figure but you have to consider some things.

One your builder, your local man with a van or a well known company? The two hourly rates difference can be massive.

You say just resanding, are they removing old?

Is it not something you could do yourself?

Basically, due to a burst pipe near our house, the drive got battered and a load of flags have moved. The whole lot needs re-doing and I need to let the firm know an estimate of the cost to make good the damage so they can compensate.

I think that's looking like the only route as it looks like it's going to be hard to get an idea from here.

Sounds like a days work to me. I reckon if you budgeted for £200 you wouldn't be that far out.

It sounds as though the sub-base needs re-doing. I would bed the slabs on sand and cement if its got to take the weight of a car to be on the safe side. Allow £400-600 plus any materials.

How can we quote / even give you a rough idea over the net?

Say £150 - £200 a day, don't know how many days though + materials

Just to avoid confusion, do you mean block paving or 2ft square slabs?
