Phone goes, I pick up:

Me: "Hello"

Moron: "You give name and address please"

Me: "Pardon?"

Moron: "You give me name and address to confirm identity please"

Me: "Errrm, confirmation for what exactly?"

Moron: "Finincies"

Me: "Pardon, what was that again?"

Moron: "Finincies, we look after finincies for you sir"

Me: "Oh, finances. Right......Look after how exactly?"

Moron: "You give me details, we look after them for you sir"

Me: "Of course you will..... Bye"

Click.

Honestly, bizarre. Like something off bloody phonejacker!

Why ever would you hang up?

Sounded very professional, they'd almost certainly be awesome.

I do like it when the bank phones me. We always have the same discussion:

Bank: "Hello, this is Mrs Simpson from Lloyds Bank, could I speak to Mr Rawwr, please?"

Me: "Speaking."

Bank: "I need to confirm your date of birth and first line of your address."

Me: "I'm not telling you that."

Bank: "Erm, why not?"

Me: "I don't know who you are."

Bank: "Lloyds Bank."

Me: "Yes, but I don't know that. You give me your number, I'll check it out and call you back."

Bank: "I'm afraid we can't give out our number. We have no phone lines in."

Me: "I see. So how can you prove to me that you're really from Lloyds Bank?"

Bank: "I can't."

Me: "And you expect me to give you personal information?"

Bank: "It's only your date of birth and address."

Me: "Which could be two bits of information an identity thief is missing and given the amount of money you've spend telling all your customers to be vigilant of identity theft, can you think of a good reason as to why I should ignore your own rules?"

Bank: "I guess not."

Me: "Cheerio, then."

Bank: "Erm, bye."

It wouldn't be too hard to fix up a password that they have to give you......the fact that they don't suggests that most folks are more than happy to take a random voice on the phone's word unconditionally.

How do you resolve these dilemma?

If we're going to post up really interesting telephone conversations, here's a peach from yesterday.

"Hi"

"You OK?"

"Yeah, fine"

"What we doing for tea?"

"Dunno, haven't thought of anything"

"Want me to pick something up from Morrisons at lunch time?"

"No it's OK, I'll get something from Spar in a bit"

"OK"

"Catch you later"

"Bye"

Quite, I had this with LTSB and some Indian chappie. He wanted me to confirm postcode details, err no. I told him to tell me what he thought it should be but he wouldn't - DPA etc. I said I would tell him the first half if he told me the second bit first....and so we went on. banghead

'Hunt For Red October' always springs to mind in situations like these.

We should both go to the Safe, get out the plastic cards and crack them open to confirm the codes...
