I am waiting for the first hydrogeon fuel cell cars to be written off....

Providing that they have not exploded... Use the bits from one of those to make a really nice sporty electric car smile

Can you stick a turbo on a hydrogeon fuel cell do we think tongue out

I'm sure it could.......it depends on what you're after, a roadster or a micro-coupe ?

A food blender? biggrin

The G-Wiz has a 6kW (8bhp) motor and a kerb weight of 665kg. Should be possible to make something rather lighter to improve performance and range.

Trexa EV modular platform concept. Set your own suspension, torque etc, fit your own body, job done! This would be great if they actually went ahead with it as a product. http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/20/trexa-ev-develo...

Have to say I too agree but then I've been pretty much doing this for years. Both Petrol and electric powered vehicles of less than 400kgs Basically Quadricycles is where we ought to be looking.

I totally agree with you and quite a few companies in Italy are working on new Quadricycles....this was just shown a few months ago in Bologna:

The potential market in Italy is of 10-11.000 units per year an about 15.000 in France....

Unfortunately there is no advantage in the UK to Quadricycles but they make ideal lightweight vehicles particularly as electric commuting vehicles. There's some very nice machines being built in Europe I've always admired Chatenex for what they produce but they are expensive

[personal opinion] The G-Wiz has just about killed the idea of a small electric hatchback in the UK, any new car in the quadricycle market would have to be the second coming and start world peace to get acceptance. I drive a Smart, they are just about accepted as a proper car, but there are still jokes and thoughts of "oh I wouldn't feel safe in one of those" around. Its taken 10 years for get that far, partly by the new model being 'normalised', no bright colours or patterns like the original car, its greys and blues on the new models. [/personal opinion]

I have to say I disagree but then I would do that. wink The smart car is fouind everywhere it's done very very well and the G-Wiz has sold over 2000 in London alone (You can't buy one outside of London) The reason the G-Wiz and the likes gets slated is purely for the entertainment factor on TopGear. I love TopGear it's a fun show it's done very very well but you have to agree it's become an entertainment show and thats BECAUSE it slates anything weedy (Dacia Sandero springs to mind) and drools over the V10 Supercars actually it's now invented the phrase Hypercar.

Qudricycles sell in Europe by the hundreds of thousands that's not to be sniffed at. Performance cars sadly are history when did you last manage to get any more than 50mph on anything other than a motorway here in the UK? Too much traffic is on the road and there's too many cameras now to get away with it. I've driven at well over twice the legal speed limit here in the UK and I've also driven in the UK thousands of miles in a Quadricycle and I have to say that on the public Highways I've had everybit as much fun in the quadricycles as I've had driving serious sports and supercars.

Motoring is changing, I am every bit as keen on having fun going silly illegal speeds as anyone here on Pistonheads but I know that fun motoring is very much changing and it just happens that quadricyles make more and more sense these days so don't rubbish them just because they don't have a V10 with a supercharger or because some are electric

I think to claim that the G-Wiz has killed the market is a bit extreme. I like light cars and these Quadricycles from Mainland Europe are cracking little things. The G-Wiz, I believe, isn't taken very seriously because it's fugly!
I also think the Smart car had it's day as soon as the novelty wore off. My brother-in-law tells me the novelty wore off for him when he had to change ANOTHER inlet manifold which had caused ANOTHER piston melt.
