I'm a long time curry monster, within reason the hotter the better, and in my mind you just cannot beat a good lamb madras.

However, over the past year I've noticed that while I am fine eating a curry, when I go to bed my throat closes up, I get all wheezy, and breathing becomes an effort...rather than just being an automatic thing, I actually have to make an effort, breathe in, breathe out, etc etc.

Sometimes bizarrely wine has exactly the same effect too...anyone else get this? I could almost give up wine as I'm fine on beer, but the horror of a life without curry, or worse still turning into a Pasanda Pussy does not bear thinking about.

Curry fiends of PH...enlighten me!

Sounds like you've developed a food allergy mate. Tough luck.

I know a fair few people who have had to severely reduce and/or completely remove spicy foods from their diet as they've got older.

Perhpas you have developed an allergy?

Likely you have developed a food intolernce not an allergy, my ex GF developed a few due to being fead poorly cooked food as a child and getting food poisoning in Indonesia.

Try and find out what exactly is causing these effects.

There is nothing better than a prawn madras and gallons of beer and it is this magic formula I will be consuming this weekend.

I can only conclude therefore that you need to drink more beer with your curry and all will be well.

agree with symptoms of wheeze and difficulty breathing, it's an allergy, not intolerance.

the reaction will get worse every time, until you die.

so ask yourself one question:

is it worth it?

that last bit may or may not have been tongue-in-cheek. i'm not telling

Although there was one guy who was really into hot cuzzahs, the hotter the better.

The quack told him to give them up as it was causing all sorts of digestive problems, which of course was subject to tap room translation that his ringpiece was burnt out.

It does sound like an allergy tbh so its worth talking to the GP and they will refer you to an allergy clinic. Its probably in your interest to keep a food diary for a week or two and note when the wheezing episodes occur so you can help narrow down the triggers.

It could be an Oral Food Allergy?

I experienced this from when I was about 12 with certain fruits and vegetables. I am also a hayfever sufferer which apparently makes you more prone to it.

Some info here

I can't eat cherrys and have found that a lovely belgium cherry beer also gives me the symptoms too frown

Keep eating it and die in a fireball of vahl-eating glory, with your ringpiece ablaze and just about holding up your tattered, burnt, prolapsed arse.

That's what a real man would do.

Thanks for the advice...I am a bit of an allergic person (dust, hayfever, cats...even though I have one!) so yeah, perhaps a visit to the quack is in order.

Perhaps so he knows what he's dealing with I'll start marinading my Andrex in camomile lotion in the fridge overnight and have a vindaringdaloo from my local the day before!

I am a self confessed Curry Tart also known as going for a "Chicken McFlurry" so i do not feel your pain (in both senses) but the prawn madrass is a hit with porn stars as a cheaper and less embarrasing form of anal bleeching.

Little known fact.

I'll concede that everything else you wrote is gospel, however.
