This is not a nice topic...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/bradford/788396... amongst other sources

But I don't understand. Both people blamed each other of abuse, both people denied involvement, both people claimed the baby drowned, both people put the baby in a cupboard as punishment, both people visited the doctor while the baby was dying... and they were both charged with murder.

So, why does the man get convicted of murder (life imprisonment) and the woman get convicted of manslaughter (9 years)?

Seriously, I don't get it.

You are not getting all the details that the Jury did and it was them that made the decision. Without being there for the whole case its not really possible to say why these sentences were handed out.

It's not "men vs women", it's "person 1 vs person 2 in this particular case". Don't try to make inappropriate generalisations and you won't get so confused. HTH.
