Stupid blinkered council recycling dogma

To tow the party line, we are going big on recycling, apparently.
So we are now going to have a recycling box for cans and glass bottles, a big white bag for plastic bottles a big green bag for newspapers. and a wheelie bin for other stuff.
Great, but all the houses on my street (except mine) are back to back terraced houses with no gardens at all. They don't collect from the houses at the back of the terraces, they have to keep their bins round the front.
Nice...so now we have 30 terraced properties in a 300 yard stretch which will now have to have 5 bins of some description per house. Outside, Permanantly, unless these people are prepared to have wheelie bins in their living rooms.
So thats 150 bins, on the street in the three hundred yard stretch.......improve the environment? f

king bks.yea i saw something on tv about the collapse of prices on the recycling market. A lot of it just getting dumped now as the recycling mountains are building up. I was quite keen on the whole recycling thing up until hearing whats happening. Perhaps ignorant but I took some pride sorting my rubbish and doing me bit thinking it was all going back into the system again.

I'm increasingly fed up with local councils, the huge salaries they pay themselves from our cash and the pathetic services they offer. Our council has a pension deficit, so a significant part of the rip off tax we pay now goes straight into this pot to ensure they all have a comfortable retirement. fNice.....

kers, they really are.Your situation with the bins sounds fairly typical of these brain-dead types. We've also gone to 'alternate weekly collection' with the helpful advice that maggot powder should be purchased in the summer given the health hazard of food waste lying about for two weeks at a time. Today is the third morning in a row that the foxes have been at our bins (as they know that rotting food is there for a couple of weeks) - they also know that we're not allowed to hunt these cuddly little fur balls of fun either.
I wonder if a few photographs sent to your local newspaper and maybe a couple of nationals too, might get the situation sorted? The potential for 150 bins in your street demonstrates the lunacy of the plan.

I think there is some kind of landfill tax which was imposed either by the EU or central govt on local authorities. So, while the reasons behind these schemes are generally good, the execution is woeful.

You might want to bear in mind that some council s are fining people for leaving their bins out too long so I hope you have a big living room.
Anyway, as I pay the council £150 a month for 8 week collections (yes, I have that little rubbish) and non-removal of snow from the road, you can imagine how cheated I feel currently.

ds... None of our bins were emptied for over a month for various reasons.
1) being sombody had put a plastic bag on our recycling bin while at side of road(threated with £80 fine if happens again)
2) recling bin lid would not shut (because they would empty 2 weeks ago)
went to B&Q and bought an incinerator. no more trips to the dump no more arguments with petty beurocrats best £27 Ive ever spent.
