Probably the worst thing that has happened all year...
Discussion
The irritating thing is that I think it was caused by a lapse of judgement from the instructors. I get the impression that they were just pissing about. This never should have happened. I've been on those flying days with the cadets and it always struck me as quite a normal thing to do.

Police looking for bits of plane.

What is the reason for this? I can understand sending a clean up crew to pick up the wreckage but why do the police need to scour the countryside?
Do they suspect terrorism?? Are they looking for evidence?
They are looking in the wrong place, its here, hey you there in the yellow coat, its behind you:-

I think a grob replaced the chipmunk
Blimey. I remember going up in chipmunks when I was in the CCF in the early 90s. There was certainly a lot of dicking around back then..."I have control"
Pilot - "You have control"
Me - "I have control"
All very scripted, i wonder what he would have said if i started a chuckle brothers "to me, to you" session

Speeding?
Sorry, feel bad making jokes. It's an awful thing to happen, but there's so many depressing news items out there, I feel as if I'm going crazy myself sometimes.

I can't see there's any evidence for you to draw that conclusion. Don't risk making defamatory comments based on eye-witness accounts.I find it hard to understand quite how you have a mid-air collision. I mean, it's not like it's congested up there. They've got a billion miles of space to avoid each other... Surely it must be difficult even if you were trying!
Condolences to the families though...

Somebody mentioned "jump jump John" on the other thread which brought 20 year old memories back!

Hmm, i noticed the pilot gave me odd looks when i started muttering to myself "pew pew pewwww, rakatakataktaka, take that red barron!"

we got the lecture that the button on the column wasn't machine guns, it was the radio and there was the apochryphal tale of the lad who made machine gun noises to every plane in a 25 mile radius
ks but stopped us pressing it!
