Writing on the reverse side of a cheque?

Absolutely. I jotted down a quick list for the weekly Waitrose shop on the back of a cheque and a few weeks later the whole thing was printed out on my monthly bank statement............................................Any clarity gratefully received!

Only thing I ever write on the back of a cheque is my account number when paying in. If *THEY* loose the paying in slip, they still know where to send the cheque to.Any clarity gratefully received!
If you write anything on the back of a cheque the only thing I could imagine them putting on your statement as a result, is what *someone else* wrote on the back of a different cheque!!!
Depends on the bank, mine certainly process all information on the bank and update my account accordingly.
I once wrote "and another two hundred pounds aswell please", and while the text appeared on my statement, unfortunately my balance wasn't creditted with the extra wonga.
Thinking about it, I probably should've put the amount in numbers aswell as words!

Surely what is written on the back of a cheque is for the recipient's benefit (address, reference number etc). The bank are only interested in what is on the front (payee, amount, date, crossings).
If it is payment to a big enough company you could find that it actually does most of the processing and feeds the debit and cheque into the banking system where they ping back to your bank's computer and your branch respectively.
