So, those of you who aren't going out to sit elbow to elbow with a couple either side of you in a hot and cheaply decorated restaurant to eat pre prepared and microwaved rubbish from a grossly overpriced set menu....

What are you doing your better half for dinner on Saturday evening?

I have gone with the chinese theme as follows:

Starters - Prawn toast with SAS sauce.

Inters - Duck. A whole gresingham duck, slow cooked and then crisped to a tee on the outside in sections, ready to be picked and ripped. Served with plum sauce, sliced cucumber and spring onion. Choice of pancakes and lettuce leaves to roll them into.

Mains - Sweet chilli marinated King Prawns served on a pile of noodles, cooked simply in soy sauce with fresh chopped garlic, spring onions, ginger and sliced red chilli.

Dessert - Something involving whipped cream hopefully.

Great thread idea!

Well, appetizer shall be giant shrimp, cooked in white wine, butter and garlic, garnished with corriander. Served alongside some nice crusty French bread.

Entree - rack of lamb, crusted with a paste made from mustard, olive oil, rosemary, salt and pepper. Seared and served pink alongside pancetta wrapped asparagus, and dauphinoise-esque potato cube.

Desert? Who knows...!

Zen.

Baked cheesecake.

I may make a Champagne sorbet as the one I made at New Year was lovely.

Just trying to source a Margaux.

seasame seed encrusted tuna with lime and chilli dressing

Seared carpaccio fillet of beef, sliced thin and covered in ginger, coriander, chilli and sesame oil with homemade bread, green salad and variety of olive oils and balsamics for dipping.

assortment of creme brulee (prob a rhubarb one, plain one and one with baileys) with homemade champagne ice cream and some fancy biscuit things if i get time.

Drinks: prob Moet for the starter and put but might crack open one of the Margaux with the beef...

Scrub off the prawn toast for me, change of plan to prawn crackers and seaweed to start.
Drinkswise, couple of cheap bottles of perry and then onto the selection of strong Belgian beer I bought last night!

I said to the Doris "pick anything from any cook book we have" and I'll try and make it.

Her reply: "nah, I quite fancy Taco's..."

that's why we're getting married hehe

considering my cooking is typical of a normal student most of the time (although my chilli is amazing), I'm going to attempt a chicken pasanda for my lady. Its her favourite curry, and if I f*ck it up, I can always walk over the road and order a take-away!

We're going for a curry with all our neighbours tomorrow - we don't really 'do' valentines.

But I'm doing Moules Frites with a bottle of champagne tonight, and twice-cooked belly pork (from this month's good food mag) on Sunday.

Main dish

+ bottle of wine.
That's me sorted (OK I may need a starter)

Ordering in Sushi, so I don't have to sweat around the kitchen leaving her to watch TV!

She goes out to buy wine, sushi comes out of hiding place, put on nice plates with wasabi mayo decoration, light candles, add creme de mure and pomegranate seeds to the sparkling wine and bobs your fathers brother.

Got a recipe for this? I had this recently at a restaurant and I think there were crushed pecans along with the biscuits in the base. Lurvely!

That sounds like the M&S Dine for 2 offer. We have just been to the Simply Food Store in Devizes and picked up some other items they had on the same offer.

I have never seen anything like it. People were like vulchers, you could barely get near. The woman on the checkout said they filled up the chiller before they went home last night and had been filling it all day. People couldn't get enough, never mind it being 2 for £20, I reckon some people were buying 4 for £40 and in some cases 6 for £60.

So far I've decided on this Jamie Oliver recipe, Nicest tray-baked Lemon Sole I've not really cooked proper fish before but this sounds easy, fingers crossed it goes okay!

Can anyone recommend a really, really easy desert?

Cheers
