good builder daily rate ?

anyone have a builder, one man team

what sort of daily rate does he charge.. or what do you think the going rate is

i've always used the same chap so have nothing to compare to. He can do structural so extensions and conservatories and charges the same amount if he is just painting a wall.


I'm mainly talking about decorating, refurbing, small bit of electrical and plumbing, fitting new kitchens and bathrooms etc..

We paid someone £200/day a while back for a variety of work - handyman stuff, I felt it was slightly high.

I'd say about £150-£200 a day if he is good. Are you talking cash or with invoice!!

I consider the fella very good as well.
He is hungarian trained so can design electrical systems for factories, all sorts of complicated ste. I think he even did his corgi as well.

Handyman £85 per day (Just does anything from cutting hedges and trees to installing bathrooms and decorating)

Builder / Chippy £150 per day (work twice as fast but want clean jobs.)

Plumber per job.

£150 for a builder. £80 for his assistant. £50 for a labourer.

unless you know and trust them NEVER pay a day rate,your asking to be rolled over.I pay day rates to people who work for us regularly but i also know exactly how much work they can do in a day

You don't worry that for those sort of prices, they'd have no insurance? No one in there right mind is going to sub out a labourer for £50.

Think about it, you've got to get him there, give him some tools, buy all his PPE, insure him and, believe it or not, pay him. That can't be done for 50 quid I can assure you... Unless he's wearing clown shoes. (The boss that is.)

Obviously, ignoring all the above and going in and bodging, then its more than possible I'd have thought. But thats a choice I'd avoid I think.

I go out for £110 to £150 a day (depends who the client is/ what the work is) and I'm just an apprentice really (do the labouring as well).

I pay someone £150 for the day when I need him. (Painting, lighting, joinery, general stuff...)

Sounds like that's too much though so he could be due a pay cut.

As has been said, always try and get it done on a price first. Unless you know the person well enough to trust them.

I reckon £150 is reasonable, but then they might try and use the materials to bump the price up!
