idle speed problem

Hi all, as you are probably starting to work out by now i know nothing, literally nothing about the mechanical side of cars.. i'm a driver (thats my excuse).
Mines a 2.5 with MBE chip and power boost valve. When the car is stationary and the engine is just ticking over the revs seem to bounce from about 600 to 800rpm like i was blipping the throttle once a second.
whats that then and more importantly what do i tell the garage to fix?
i'll attempt it myself if its as simple as turning a screw, anything more and forget it so save your time explaining how lol. thanks people
oh and one more thing, the car totally died on the way to work on monday (after the meet sunday!) and i had it towed to the local garage (a morgan racing specialist so know what they are doing). they actually found the fault to be in the relays behind the passenger foot well. apparently they were very corroded and furred up. they cleaned them up to make a connection and got it going again. the car drives fine now but should i replace the relays? if its a work or not situation then fine but am i loosing any percentage of power because they are not 100% perfect? Told you i know nothing! lol

I'm just in the middle of this same senario
with an M400.
Took it back to the garage who have had it for 5 to 6 weeks
to replace "inlet manifold" & MAP sensor".
When I got it back the sysmptoms were the same as you discribed.
It's back with them now. I hope its OK as its Friday 13th today

Yes you can. Please be aware resetting the adaptives can make a small problem even worse.......as the car will have ';earned' around certain issues that develop over time. Resetting the maps can remove all the 'learning'.
It always worked for me, but I have seen others where it made the situation much worse.

thanks for the input guys, i think the best bet is for me to bring this thread up on the PC at the garage.
by the way which manifold is the inlet manifold. my rear manifold has a bodged weld on it to tide me over until the factory can get a new one out to me. the front manifold was replaced about a month ago. both have new lamda sensors in them although the rear one may have fried as the manifold has developed a major crack since the new lamda sensor went in.
anyway thanks for the pointers. i may have exagerated the rev bounce it is very obvious to the ear but on the rev counter it only bounces about 3mm. sounds odd though so somethings not quite right.
