I must say, in these shots they look promisingly 'lively' on track!

I think the drivers are still getting used to having low downforce. It sounds like all they're trying to be smoother with their driving - even more so than 2009. And they DO look LIVELY!

Is it just me, or do their gearchanges sound a bit off?

I must admit, doesn't the 08 benchmark car look crap now? I much prefer the look of the 09 cars.

I haven't seen any testing vids yet of the 09 cars follow nose-to-tail. You'd think they'd want to find out what they are like in close proximity.

I guess that with such limited testing mileage that is very low down the list of priorities for the teams.

They certainly do look lively and a lot 'cleaner' aerodynamically but those Mickey Mouse rear wings still look odd to me. However there does seem to be a return to an emphasis on driver skill and they've brought back slick tyres. It should be an exciting season.

F1 - Formula One, the rules make the Forumula. I do get what you're saying though but F1 needs to rewrite the rules now and again or else the designers become very good at making cars that can't be raced and can only be lapped at increasingly higher speeds.

It's happened again and again since the formula started and is one of the things that brings me back to viewing F1 every season.

I agree though , the current cars are fugly (the Red Bull excepted).

Looks more like a F3 car to me. I'm sure i'll get used to it though.

i think most will get used to the cars after the first few races. they look a bit funny, a bit plain, but they should be interesting to watch

What a pointless statement!

Compromise:
Are you telling me that Adrian Newey and his team have compromised on the design of their car - far from it. the Red Bull really seems to have pushed the envelope, that front nose is very striking indeed.

Price-cutting:
Errrr have you seen the news lately, or are you wondering where to get your next fix of pick-n-mix from? Besides, Toyota have shown season after season that throwing money at F1 does not bring success. Remember Renault's back-to-back championships with Alonso - they have one of the smallest budgets in F1.

Regulation:
Mmmmmmmm funny one this. We all hate the FIA, but without regulation there would be no F1. Look what happened to the finacial sector globally without regulation?

Nuff said.

PS. I'm liking the new cars and can't wait for the season to start, with all the spanking well behind us now from 08, and with McLaren and Ferrari now publically in bed with each other now after sooo much scandal in 08, let's hope that 09 brings the sport back to us fans. Having it on the Beeb without adverts and that prick James Allen, plus back on slicks is the start of something good for us all...

It needs to have some cost control and regulation otherwise there would only be one or two teams as everyone would be priced out of the sport, and everyone would run cars with mile-wide slicks, massive fully adustable wings, turbos, fully computer controlled cars, 400,000bhp, machine guns, lasers, 10 year old drivers to save weight, etc.

Actually, I'd pay good money to watch that.
