Morning all, hope someone can help.

My Dad won the 1979 modified midgets (sounds bad don't it) championship back in 79/80 I believe. He now helps me out with my Caterham racing. He has a few photos from back in the day but I was wondering if I can't buy a few more. Does anyone remember who the clubman photographers were back then and are they still going?

Any help much appreciated.

Might be a good idea to ask over at http://www.mgmidgetchallenge.co.uk on their little forum as some of the guys still race from back then.

... oh and nothing wrong with winning the midget championship smile

Try this link but you may have to sign up 1st. Thread is titled "Personal photos of british club racing" and is in the nostalgia forum part of the autosport website.

http://forums.autosport.com/showthread.php?s=&...

Might not have the pics you want on the thread but plenty of photographers from "back in the day" who might be able to help, especially if you can list event dates and the like.

Although he doesn't have a site
Give Steve Jones 01905 424944 a call.
He has been photographing club racing since Fangio was a boy.
Here is one of his of me in my modsports Midget, but a little latter than your Dad's era

Thanks everyone.

I have spoken to a few people, the problem I now have is I need a dates and tracks...which you can imagine isn't very easy. So anyway, trying to track down the dates from the 1979/80 series & ideally his race number per event (apparently used to change each round back then). If anyone has it or could imagine where I could get it from would be appreciated.

nice photo btw. Thats the sort of thing, although Dad's was quite a bit wider than that!

For reference i have tracked photographers from the time known to be there from a friend of Dad's

Fred Scatley - deceased
John Gaisford - sold a lot on to......

You really ought to speak to the MG Midget Challenge people as discussed. They will likely be able to recall the track dates for you if he was involved in that.

The previous winners are listed in the regulations, and your father is listed as having won Class A in 1978 (I'm going by surname).

Larry has been the organiser since the first round, and his details can be found on the website already mentioned. I don't know if he has kept race dates/results info for every round, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Get to one of our races this season and let your Dad reminisce! The Midgets are still a great show smile

Larry is in Brazil at the moment, you may be best talking to Gil Duffy who happily will chat for ages about it!

Also, post here:

Loads of people on there have extensive photo libraries of this stuff.

thanks. I have the information now and am waiting on the ferret! (not something I say everyday that!)

Yes it was 78 thanks. I've managed to get about 10 rounds where he raced over 78/79 so I should get something. Also got his race numbers and in one round he runs the same 32 as me so i really want a shot of that. Will put something up should I manage to get it.

as for coming along, both he and I would like that. Combe would of been ideal but we are racing at Oulton. Will have to see if your silverstone dates get confirmed.

Cheers
